On this day in 1985 - Hall of Famer Earl Weaver comes out
of retirement to manage the Orioles. Weaver led Baltimore to
six A.L. titles from 1968-82.

Now 78 and living in Florida, Weaver recently shared with a
Baltimore Sun reporter his favorite ways of showing umpires
that their judgment was, um, wrong:
1. Tearing up the rule book under the umpire’s nose.
“I did that in Cleveland after getting thrown out of a game.”
2. Ripping third base off its moorings and hurling it off the field.
“If (the umpire) couldn’t tell fair from foul, why keep the base?
3. Scuffing dirt onto home plate.
“He wasn’t using it anyway.”
4. Wearing his baseball cap backward.
“I really did that so umpires couldn’t say I bumped them with
the bill of my hat (during arguments).”

Let’s see if any of our guys delivered a Hall of Fame
performance.
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t play in the Dodgers victory over the Rangers on
Saturday.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 0-for-4, and struck out twice. His average fell
to .314.
Craig Breslow, P – Oakland A’s
Craig pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning in the A’s loss to
the Giants on Saturday, giving up a hit and striking out
one. He lowered his ERA to 4.50.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott pitched 5 scoreless innings on Saturday night against
the Dodgers, but was unable to get a win due to a very long
delay in the game (1 hour 41 minutes) because of a power
outage! He allowed 3 hits and struck out one in his
abbreviated appearance and lowered his ERA to
3.70. Because of the long delay, Rangers manager Ron
Washington didn’t allow him to retake the mound for the 6th
inning.
Here are a couple of quotes courtesy of AP.
“It was pretty frustrating,” Feldman said. “I felt I was throwing
pretty good and wanted to go back out there.”
“Feldman was on his way to a pretty good game when we
got hit with the lights,” manager Ron Washington said.
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John didn’t pitch in the Pirates win over the Tigers on
Saturday.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe didn’t play in the Rays’ win over the Nats on Saturday.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 1-for-4 Saturday in the Rangers loss to
the Dodgers. His average is at .264.
The Rangers recognized Ian during pregame for
his 6-for-6 cycle game on April 15, and fans
were given commemorative color lithographs.
He was third in the majors batting .474 after that
night, but has dropped to .264 since.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason limited the Mariners to a run and seven
hits and 3 walks in seven innings on Saturday,
but was denied the decision in the Rockies 5-3
victory. He struck out two and also had an RBI
with a bases-loaded walk for the Rockies’ first
run in the second inning!
“I didn’t get the win, but the team did,” Marquis
said. “That’s all that matters.”

Jason has earned another Chai 5:

Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott is currently dealing with the unexpected loss of his
wife. My prayers are with him.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk went 0-for-3, walked three times, struck
out twice and scored once. “The Greek God of
Walks” was at it again!!

His average fell to .339.

Daily Minyan – June 4, 2009
On this date in 1964, Hall of Famer Sandy
Koufax throws the third no-hitter of his
career, striking out 12, as the Dodgers beat the
Phillies 3-0. Sandy would eventually throw 4 no-
hitters as shown in this iconic photograph
below:

Let’s hope that some of our guys can live up
to his level of excellence!!! Oy Vey!!
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t play in the Dodgers 1-0 win over the D-Backs.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 2-for-5, and hit his 10th home run – a 2-run shot –
in the Brewers win over the Marlins. However, everything
wasn’t all rosy for Ryan as he was picked off first by Kiko
Calero to end the 7th inning. Ryan raised his average
to .312.

Ryan rounding the bases after his blast!
Ryan has earned a Chai 5!

Craig Breslow, P – Oakland A’s
Craig didn’t pitch in the A’s win over the White
Sox.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott pitched into the seventh inning against the
Yankees to win his third consecutive start for
the Rangers. Scott (5-0) allowed two runs, one
earned, and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also
walked three, but struck out five. He is 5-0 with
a 2.63 ERA in eight starts since he joined the
rotation in April.
Here are some quotes courtesy of Jason Cohen
of the AP:
“I do better when I keep the ball on the ground.
I’m not like a big strikeout type of pitcher,” said
Scott.
“Scott Feldman has been great since we
put him in the starting rotation,” Texas
manager Ron Washington said. “He always
does what you need him to do, keep you in
the ballgame. He did that tonight very well.”
“We weren’t swinging the bats particularly well, but Feldman
was good,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates game against the Mets was rained
out.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe entered the Rays-Royals game in the 7th
inning and struck out in his only plate
appearance in the 8th inning of the Rays
victory. His average fell once again and is
now .176, which is way below the Mendoza
Line.

Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove
in a run in the Rangers victory over the
Yanks. He also walked twice and was
picked off first. Fellow minyan member
Scott Feldman got the win. His average
increased to .282.
Ian, once again, has earned a Chai 5!

Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason took the loss in yesterday’s start against the Astros,
going 6 innings and giving up 5 runs on ten hits and four
walks. His record fell to 7-4 and his ERA rose to 4.10.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott is currently dealing with the unexpected loss of his wife. My prayers are with him.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk went 2-for-3, including his 14th double of
year, knocked in a run, scored a run, walked
and in a surprise to me, stole his second base
of the year as the BoSox victory beat the
Tigers. However, he left the game in the 8th
inning with a right foot injury. Youk was
stretching for a throw at first when Josh
Anderson kicked his right ankle, but BoSox
manager Francona said after the game that it
appeared to only be a bruise. His average rose
to .358. Below is Youk’s reaction to this
incident:

Today’s question is, what’s with my guys
getting hurt???
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day - Scott Feldman

He beat the Yankees!!! Now he can to Katz’s Deli to celebrate!!

Daily Minyan – May 30, 2009
In honor of Matt Wieters’ first major league hit – A TRIPLE!!!

today’s Minyan will highlight a famous Baltimore baseball beginning and a not so famous end.
On May 30, 1935, Babe Ruth plays only the first inning of the opener of a doubleheader between the Boston Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at Baker Bowl. It is his final major league appearance.
On May 30, 1982, Cal Ripken plays the first of his record 2,632 straight games.
“The Streak” ends on September 20, 1998. A game that I had tickets for, but didn’t attend because of the Jewish holidays.
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t play in yesterday’s loss to the Cubbies.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 1-for-3, hit his 10th double, walked and scored a run in the Brewers win over the Reds. He raised his average to .315.
Craig Breslow, P – Oakland A’s
Craig recorded a scoreless inning of work in the A’s loss to the Rangers. He lowered his ERA to 5.12.
That earned him a Chai 5.

Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott (4-0) pitched 6 innings and gave up two runs on five hits and three walks to help the Rangers win for the sixth time in eight games and completed a doubleheader sweep of the A’s on Friday night. He also struck out two and lowered his ERA to 3.91.
He allowed four baserunners in the first inning, but gave up only one run before settling down.

“I thought he did an excellent job to hang in there the way he did,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said.
Scott has pitched at least five innings in each of his seven starts since being inserted into the rotation on April 25 when Kris Benson went on the disabled list.
”I started behind in the count on too many guys, and that will drive your pitch count up,” Scott said of his early struggles. “But anytime your team wins, you’ve got to be grateful.”
Scott has earned another Chai 5!!

John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John didn’t pitch in the Pirates loss to the Astros.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe pinch hit for Gabe Gross in the 7th inning and went 0-for-1, with a walk. He also was thrown out trying to steal. His average remained below the Mendoza Line and is currently .186.

Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 0-for-5 in the Rangers double header sweep of the A’s, but performed a lead-off hitter’s role by walking 3 times and scoring twice. He lowered his average to .275
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason (7-3) pitched 8 shut-out innings against the Padres to pick up his third straight win. He gave up six hits, walked four and struck out a season-high six batters.
He wanted to finish off the game, but Huston Street came on instead and pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.
“I felt good enough to go out there,” Marquis said. “It’s the manager’s decision. I’m fine with that.”
Jason has pitched into the eighth inning in each of his past three starts and has worked at least seven innings in seven of his 10 starts this season. He has decisions in all of them, going 7-3 with a 3.93 ERA and is tied with Johan Santana of the Mets and Bronson Arroyo of the Reds for the most wins in the National League.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott is currently dealing with the unexpected loss of his wife. My prayers are with him. For the first time since his tragedy, Scott visited with his teammates at Chase Field on Wednesday.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk went 1-for-3, walked once and struck out once in the Sox loss to the Blue Jays. He raised his average slightly to .374

Daily Minyan – May 18, 2009
This Date in Baseball History (with an Orioles slant):
1957 – Dick Williams of the Orioles hit a ninth-inning, game-tying solo home run against Chicago’s Paul LaPalme seconds before 10:20 p.m. — a time set as a curfew so the White Sox could catch a train out of Baltimore. If Williams had done anything else, Chicago would have won. The game was replayed from the beginning and Baltimore won.
The White Sox obviously weren’t fans of this T-shirt slogan:

1990 – The Baltimore Orioles tied an American League record with eight consecutive singles in a seven-run first inning against Bobby Witt to beat the California Angels 13-1.
So, how did our guys do on Sunday?
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad went 1-for-5, scored a run and struck out twice in Sunday’s Dodgers’ win over the Marlins. Brad is now batting .346.
Brad was catching Clayton Kershaw, who had a no hit bid broken up in the 8th inning.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 1-for-3, hitting his 8th double, earning a walk and scored 2 runs in Sunday’s Brewers win over the Cardinals. He also was hit by a pitch and scored when Prince Fielder blasted his 9th homer. His average held steady at .320.
Ryan earns a Chai 5 for his day.
Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins
Craig didn’t pitch Sunday in the Twins 3rd straight loss to the Yanks.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott pitched six scoreless innings in Sunday’s shutout of the Angels, allowing four hits and two walks along with getting three strikeouts. He left with the game tied 0-0 and Jason Jennings got the win. His effort lowered his ERA to 4.04.
The Rangers shut out the Angels in Texas for the first time since 2003 and had their first home shutout since last September.
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John didn’t pitch Sunday in the Pirates win over the Rockies.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe went 0-for-2, knocked in a run, scored a run and drew a walk in the Rays victory over the Indians. His average fell to .220.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 1-for-3, scored a run and knocked in one. He also walked (but was immediately picked off) and slugged his 11th double of the year. His average rose to .314.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason was preparing for his Monday start against the Braves.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott didn’t on Sunday because the D-backs game against the Braves was postponed to rain.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk is on the 15-day disabled list–retroactive to May 5– and is eligible to return from the disabled list on Wednesday.
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day - Scott Feldman

Daily Minyan – May 13, 2009
I am proud to present the first Macher of the Month to none other than Ryan Braun, who is so good that he merits his own logo!

Ryan Joseph Braun, was born on November 17, 1983, in Mission Hills, CA, won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2007, during which he led the National League in slugging percentage. He also won the Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year, the Baseball America Rookie of the Year, the Baseball Prospectus Internet Baseball NL Rookie of the Year, and the Players Choice NL Most Outstanding Rookie Awards. Over the prior decade, the only other NL hitter to win all 5 awards was Albert Pujols, in 2001.

In 2008, Ryan was included on the 2008 NL Sporting News All Star Team, won the 2008 NL Outfielder Silver Slugger Award, and was third in the voting for the 2008 NL MVP award, with 139 points, behind Pujols and Ryan Howard, for which he received a $50,000 bonus.

Ryan’s father, Joe, is Israeli-born and immigrated to the United States at the age of seven. His nickname is “The Hebrew Hammer,” which references his Jewish heritage, former Brewer Hank Aaron (whose nickname was “Hammerin’ Hank”), and the movie The Hebrew Hammer, starring Adam Goldberg.

It is also the nickname of former teammate Gabe Kapler and in the past was a nickname for Al Rosen

and Hank Greenberg.

Ryan is one of the highest-drafted Jewish ballplayers in the history of professional baseball. The New York Yankees made Ron Blomberg the number one pickin the 1967 draft. Ryan was considered the best Jewish minor league baseball prospect in 2006, and became major league baseball’s first Jewish Rookie of the Year the following season. In each of 2007 and 2008, Ryan hit more home runs (34 and 37) than all but 3 of the top 10 career Jewish home run hitters had hit in their best seasons. Only Hank Greenberg (58), Shawn Green (49), and Al Rosen (43) hit more in a single year.
“Braun” was, coincidentally, the family name of Sandy Koufax, until his mother remarried and he took his stepfather’s name. “There’s no (family) connection that I know of,” Braun said, “but it’s kind of cool.” In another coincidence, Ryab lived for a time with his maternal grandfather in a house that previously belonged to Jewish Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Greenberg. Ryan’s grandfather has lived in the house for over 40 years.
In December 2007, Ryan was the only Jewish athlete invited by President George W. Bush to the annual Hanukkah Dinner at the White House, where he talked baseball with the President.

Now on to the updates. As far as I know, none of our boys played on Monday, so this update only covers yesterday’s games.
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t play in yesterday’s Dodgers’ loss to the Phillies.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 1-for-4, and scored a run in the Brewers victory over the Marlins. Ryan lowered his average to .342.
Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins
Craig didn’t pitch in yesterday’s Twins victory over the Tigers.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott took a shutout into the seventh and gave up one run and four hits in 6 1-3 innings for the first-place Rangers. He also walked 2 and struck out 2 in the Rangers victory over the Mariners. Scott left with game tied 1-1. The Rangers exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th, giving the victory to rookie Derek Holland, who earned his first career victory. Scott’s stellar pitching performance lowered his ERA to 4.85.
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John didn’t pitch in yesterday’s Pirates win over the Cardinals.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe went 1-for-2, with a single and knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the Rays loss to my O’s. His raised his average to .234.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 3-for-5, and hit his 10th double of the year. He raised his average to .316.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason didn’t pitch in yesterday’s Rockies big victory over the Astros.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott pitched a scoreless 9th inning, with one strikeout, in the D-backs loss to the Reds. He lowered his ERA to 1.80.
Scott gets the Chai 5 for the second time in a row!
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk was placed on the 15-day disabled list–retroactive to May 5–because of a strained oblique on his left side.
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day - Scott Feldman

Daily Minyan – May 7, 2009
The Schlemiel of the Day and the next 50 games
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t play in the Dodgers win over the lowly Nationals.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan hit his second career grand slam and drove in a career high 6 runs in the Brewers thrashing of the Reds. His career night also included a two-run single off the Reds’ shortstop, Paul Janish, who was a pitcher in college at Rice.

Reds SS (and emergency pitcher) Paul Janish
“Nights like this are fun, kind of few and far-between,” said Braun, who had a career-high six RBIs. “So you have to enjoy them when they come.”
Ryan, who has five homers in his last 14 games, went 3-for-6 to raise his batting average to .320.
Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins
Craig pitched two innings in the Twins loss to the Orioles, which featured 3 rain delays, lasting 2 hours and 49 minutes. He gave up Luke Scott’s solo shot to deep center on the first pitch he threw and then retired 6 out the next 7 batters. Somehow he lowered his ERA to 6.52.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott won his second game of the year, over the A’s, allowing two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three in his third start since replacing Kris Benson in the starting rotation.
“I love starting,” Feldman said. “It’s been a lot of fun the last three games. I don’t want to take anything for granted though. When they tell me to pitch I want to do well. It’s nice to get the opportunity to be a regular starter.”
Scott, who grew up near Oakland in Burlingame had lots of family members and friends in attendance said, “Sure it’s nice to win with them in the stands. Any time you can pitch well it’s only going to help things.”
For his performance, Scott has earned a Chai 5!
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John didn’t pitch in the Pirates loss to the Cardinals.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe didn’t play in the Rays extra inning victory over the Yankees.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 2-for-4, in the Rangers win over the A’s and raised his average to .328.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason didn’t start in the Rockies big victory over the Giants.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott didn’t pitch in the D-backs victory over the Padres.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk didn’t play in the Red Sox loss to the Indians due to muscle soreness in his left side.
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day - Ryan Braun

This was my easiest decision yet!
Daily Minyan – May 2, 2009
For the last two days I have actually been to services, where there is a real minyan and on one those days I got to witness the Bat Mitzvah of a girl I’ve known since she was 6 years old!!! My son will be doing the same Torah portion next year!!
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad, didn’t play in the Dodgers’ victory over the Padres.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 1-for-4, with a strikeout in the Brewers loss to the Diamondbacks. He lowered his average to .314 and extended his streak to 171 errorless games. He still seems to be in a minor slump.
Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins
Craig didn’t pitch in the Twins victory over the Royals.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott took a shutout into the sixth inning in his second start of the season. He allowed one hit through five innings against the ChiSox, retiring the first 11 batters and recorded the first two outs of the sixth before running into trouble. He gave up singles to Chris Getz and Josh Fields before walking Carlos Quentin, which caused Manager Ron Washington to yank him from the game.
Unfortunately, Derek Holland,

I don’t think Scott will be picking up the tab for this guy anytime soon!
who relieved him, gave up a 3-run double to Jim Thome, and ruined Scott’s nice outing! Scott allowed three runs, three hits and a walk in 5 2-3 innings. He also struck out 3 batters.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better job from Feldman,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said.
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John relieved starter Zack Duke and promptly gave up a solo shot to Brandon Phillips! Not a good start to his second consecutive relief performance in which he was scored on. He also walked and picked off Reds 3B Adam Rosales, before he got out of the inning. His ERA rose to 2.38.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe didn’t play in yesterday’s win over the BoSox.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 1-for-3, hitting another leadoff homer (the 7th in his career and the 8th this season) and knocking in another run with a sac fly in the 3rd. He’s now batting .323.

Ian touching home after his leadoff homer.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason didn’t start yesterday in the Rockies game against the Giants. He is slated to pitch later today and I think he did great!
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott didn’t pitch in the Diamondbacks win over the Brewers.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk went 2-for-3, with 2 doubles, a walk and scored a run in yesterday’s loss to the Rays. After briefly dropping below the .400 mark, Youk is now batting .405.
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day - Scott Feldman

Welcome to the club, bubbula!!
Daily Minyan – April 23, 2009
We had a career high in hits equalled and found out that another is moving to the starting rotation!!! So it was a good day for the Lantsmen!!
Brad Ausmus, C - Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad didn’t see any action in the Dodgers game against the Astros.
Jose Bautista, 3B - Toronto Blue Jays
Jose went 4-for-5, which matches a career high in hits, with a double and 2 runs scored in the Blue Jays game against the Rangers. He raised his batting average to .344.
Ryan Braun, OF, 3B - Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan went 1-for-2, with a walk and a run scored. In the fourth inning, he lined a single off the left-field wall but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double on a perfect throw by Raul Ibanez. He raised his average to .308.
Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins
Craig pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the Red Sox in the rain-shortened first game of their day-night double header. He allowed one single and struck out a batter. His ERA was lowered to 6.75.
Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers
Scott didn’t have a good outing against the Blue Jays. He pitched 1 2/3 of an inning and gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 earned runs (I sense a theme here!) and somehow he struck out a batter. All the damage occurred during the sixth inning. He had a 1-2-3 fifth inning. His ERA now stands at 12.15!!
However, the news about Scott isn’t all bad! He will be starting this Saturday for the Rangers in their game against my Orioles as the replacement for former Oriole Kris Benson who was placed on the 15-day DL with elbow tendinitis. I’ll miss seeing his start in person by one day!
John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates
John pitched a scoreless 8th inning against the Marlins giving up a lead-off hit then striking out the side to record his seventh scoreless appearance of the season. He earned his third hold. He’s currently working out of a set-up role in front of closer Matt Capps. His ERA remains a perfect 0.00.
Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays
Gabe didn’t play in the Rays game against the Mariners.
Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers
Ian went 0-for-6, with two strike-outs against the Rangers game against the Blue Jays. However, he also scored a run and stole third base for his 7th steal of the year. His batting average fell to .407.
Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies
Jason didn’t start in the Rockies game against the Diamondbacks.
Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks
Scott didn’t pitch in the Diamondbacks game against the Rockies.
Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox
Youk went a combined 1-for-7 in the Red Sox day-night doubleheader against the Twins, with his performance in the first game being vastly superior to the second game, where he played third, instead of his usual spot on first base.
In the first game he hit a 2-run homer in his first at-bat, walked and scored 2 runs. In the second game he went 0-for-4 and went down swinging 3 times. His average now stands at .429.
Macher (Big Shot) of the Day – Jose Bautista
